The National Football Centre

I had occasion this week to visit the The National Football Centre near Burton on Trent. Quite an impressive place I have to say no least because I sneaked a look at the pitches which despite the recent wet weather, were like billiard tables.

The Hotel complex where the rubbish trade show was held was really swish and really really clean. In fact, it puts most hospitals to shame.

Money well spent? Well the only way this place will be judged is if England win the World Cup. There is no other measure in my book.

One thing that did stand out is that they have some museum artefacts from days of yore and a really nice memorial to the football match placed over Christmas in WWI in no-man’s land. No wonder England -v- Germany has such significance to us. Fair play to the FA for paying such a respectful tribute and recognising sport can sometimes overcome some of the most terrible events in humankind.
