I like my Friday commute, nice thirty minutes each way. I think I am now leaning more in favour of walking over the push bike but, mainly because of the prevelant strong winds of late.

The book I'm reading now about Britain's early jets raves about Vulcan bomber claiming it could out manoever most of it's contempory fighters from both sides of the Atlantic. So much so that at NATO exercise crews were briefed to fly at lower altitudes and slower speed so fihters could pratice interceptions.

Undoubtedly. He didn't really get rid of Catholics per se; he played them off against the Protestants all the time to keep power and keep Spain and France divided. He had a excellent knowledge religious affairs and could speak and write Latin very well. A thoroughly dangerous chap really.

If the weather was better I wouldn't mind a walk-and-beer afternoon if we can sort out a route.

I cannot remember much about him other than he was a slim athletic younger man and on the plus side he got rid of the Catholic Church and had no like for Spain and France.
I suspect much of his despotism went with the job as Kings and Queens were still pretty much considered Gods chosen at the time. A bit like how Tony Blair see himself today.
I've no doubt he did some awful stuff, they all pretty much did back then, and this book certainly sounds like an informative read. No doubt the author would have had the full works if Henry was still king.

Though I haven't been much of a fan of football for considerable time I agree with you changing things 'for the better' is just dressing up a change that should profit those advocating it and not the people that enjoy the game.
I cannot think of many more tradtional sporting events than the FA cup final so why mess with it/ Some people never learn; If it ain't broke, don't fix it. It would serve them right if the viewing figures plumitted.

Cricket has had it's share of corruption scandals and politicians have more or less always been for themselves witht the rare great exceptions that make voting worth while.
I cannot see why anyone in their right mind would want to extend this 'elected corruption' to the House Of Lords either. just think about it; more sodding elections and half baked voting, an extra set of salaries to fork out for and the controlling party in the House of Commons will most likely have a free hand with any old tosh of a bill they put forward.
Let's not start on the EU, just makes Soddom and Gomorrah look like an Amish paradise.

I used Diamond's 56 in to Birmingham and back on Thursday; clean, efficient, and generally good. No good for a normal workday though: that would take 2.5 hours or more....
